2009burrows.1.jpgWally Burrows - President
Wally joined the club in 1990 and in his own words 'somehow got the job of Vice Captain' in 1997. From that point became Captain two years later and held the position until 2004. In the 1998/99 seasons Wally was heavily involved in the planning and creation of the clubhouse we have now. Set up the clubs '50 club' and still administers this vital fundraiser to this day. Had the honour of being awarded the Sussex County BA 'Michael Newth Trophy' and order of merit for services to Tarring Priory BC in 2002. In 2006 Wally took up a position on the clubs General Committee. The Main responsibilities being the Clubs Welfare Officer and 'handyman' - if a job needs doing Wally does it! He was elected again as Captain for the 2008 season and elected President in 2010. If you want to email Wally click on his name above.
Martin Joyce - Hon. Secretary2009joyce.1.jpg
Martin joined Priory in 1998 and could be seen many evenings on the green 'rolling up', his competitive nature pushing him on to improve his ability. Served three years as one of the clubs Vice Captains 2003-06 and is our clubs representative on the WEB Committee (Worthing Endorses Bowls) where he is Head of Youth Development. In this job Martin has a team of 6 coaches who travel round schools in the Worthing area teaching a form of 'fun bowls' to the kids. Being an ECB Cricket Coach Martin is well suited to this job, let us hope he unearths a new 'Mike Fairs' for Tarring Priory in the next few years. Martin has been Hon. Secretary since 2006 having been again re-elected for 2009. If you would like to contact Martin by email please click on his name above
2009hood.1.jpgTed Hood - Hon. Treasurer & Child Protection Officer
Ted started bowling as long ago as 1956 (you don't look old enough Ted!!). Rejoined Tarring Priory when moving back to Sussex in 1979 and is now the clubs 5th longest serving member. Joined the clubs General Committee in 1984 and has held various positions on the clubs management up to the present day only missing one season in office (2001). President 1996 - 2000. Auditor 1990 - 2004. SCBA Delegate 2000 - 2005. Hon.Secretary 2005 and now (2006-2009) Hon. Treasurer. Other positions held since 1984: Press Secretary, General Committee Member and Competition Secretary. Well done Ted - a real stalwart of the club. If you want to contact Ted by email please click on his name above
John Fairs - Captain2009fairsjohn.1.jpg
Joined the Club in 1992 to start learning the game whilst still an active weekend Cricketer with Broadwater. Retired from Cricket in 1996 and took up bowling in earnest playing in as many matches as work and home life permit. When not playing enjoys watching and supporting the club and other members in matches including County competitions. Elected to the Committee in 2003 and in 2005 he assisted the Competetion Secretary taking on the role full time 2006 - 2008. He is the Sussex County Bowling Association delegate for Tarring Priory and was elected this year (2009) as Captain. If you want to email John please click on his name above.
2009ford.1.jpgBrian Ford - Vice Captain
Brian was born in the shadows of 'twin towers' of the old Wembley Stadium. He is a fervent supporter of both Wealdstone FC and Chelsea FC (you will eventually get over the latter Brian)!
After spending a long weekend rolling up with his late father Brian decided to join the Kodak Club in Hemel Hemstead in 1986. He held the Captaincy of the club from 1989 - 1991. He left (when moving to Worthing) as Club Champion (Singles and Pairs) for the three previous years. Joined Tarring Priory in September 1991.
Outside bowls he has a great love of cooking and learning the Italian Language. I look forward to seeing him chatting with Emilio and Luigi this year. Brian still writes poetry and sketches and holds the National Operatic and Dramatic Arts Long Service Medal for over 30 years service to the theatre. He has either had lead roles, written or directed in over 120 pantomimes, plays, farces, musicals and reviews.
Hammy Pannu - Vice Captain2009pannu.1.jpg
We will bring a 'potted history' of Hammy's life and bowls career very shortly. Please come back again soon.
2009rolph.1.jpgChris Rolph - Fixtures Secretary
Dropped from his position as 'Wicket Keeper' for Rustington Cricket Club 2nd X1 (yes he really was that good) Chris decided that Umpiring or Scoring was not for him and took up bowls. In 1982 upon joining Norfolk Bowling Club he found himself the youngest member by some 30 years and the only one to want to play in the evenings! However Chris stayed with Norfolk until mid summer in 1990 when the decision was made to move to Tarring Priory. A member of the clubs Selection Committee for 6 seasons from 1996 he became the clubs Competition Secretary in 2002 and held the position until 2005. Spent 7 years as 'Tour Organiser'. Is now Hon. Fixtures Secretary 2006 -2009 and the clubs 'Webmaster'. If you want to contact Chris by email please click on his name above.
Alan Messer - Competition Secretary2009messer.1.jpg
Being a Manchester City fan since he was a boy (in the days before they were rich), Alan was immediately struck by the chance to wear Priory's Pale Blue shirts being the nearest he could get to pulling on the City shirt! Alan had been bowling socially for a couple of years and in September 2005 joined Priory eager to experience the more competitive bowling a club like Priory could offer. He is very keen and puts his name down for almost everything - this may explain how he became elected to this job.
Alan does however have a certain pedigree for organisation having been Secretary to the Sussex County Bar Billiards Association for over 10 years, a game which he still strives to be good at in the winter months.
If you would like to contact Alan by email please click on his name above.
2009dipietro.1.jpgEmilio DiPietro - Youth Development Officer
Emilio's great love for many years was football (another QPR fan for those that didn't know - come on uarrrrrrrrrs). In 1978 started coaching a group of local youngsters who did not have a football team and as a result of that the Worthing Minors Boys Football Club came in existance. After four years and the boys getting older Emilio then assisted in the birth of a club for local Italian children and A.C. Azzuri was formed, the club still being in existance today. As he was getting older in the mid 1990's he decided he would like to take up a sport himself rather than being on the sidelines of a football club. Hence he gave bowls a try and joined Tarring Priory Bowls Club. Emilio has progressed to last year (2005) being the clubs 'B' teams 'Top Skip' playing in the Brodie Tray. Emilio has in 2007 stepped down as the clubs Catering Officer after serving the club well for the past few years. Served three years as the club Vice Captain (2006 - 2008) and in 2009 was elected to his new role of Youth Development Officer.

Colin Kent - Bar Manager2009kent.1.jpg
Having been a member of Tarring Priory for some 5 years now Colin appears back in charge of the bar (again) and will need the help and support of members againthis year.
He has decided to take on the role of Bar manager again so as to alleviate any problems for our new incoming Captain: John Fairs. By next season he hopes to have trained someone to take over so if any of our membership would like to help the club in this important task please talk to Colin.
Colin was a Publican for 22 years and has been bowling for 42 years so as you will gather he is very experienced but (in his own words) without the skills to do the job properly!
Colin has highhopes that 2009 will see Priory get back to winning ways and maybe grab a trophy or three!
If you would like to contact Colin by email please click on his name above
2009ide.1.jpgChris Ide - Governing Committee Member
Chris joined Tarring Priory in January 1999 having been wanting to get into bowls for several years. He previously had been a keen player of football, cricket and darts and having given up these sports was keen to start a new sporting hobby. This is his second term of office as a Governing Committee Member as well as serving for a second term on the Selection Committee.<br />
If you would like to contact Chris by email please click on his name above.
Mike Stenning - Governing Committee Member2009stenning.1.jpg
Mike started bowling in Northern Ireland in the early 70's starting on 'shortmat' at his local church in a village called Ballygowen, Co.Down. He joined an outdoor club in Hollywood, Co.Down and progressed from there. Returning to Littlehampton in 1981 he became a member of the Worthing Pavilion club for a short while - work commitments keeping him away from the game for a few years. Upon meeting Tony Hill in the East Preston British Legion one Sunday night, they chatted and subsequently Mike returned to the game joining Priory some four years ago. Mike says he is thoroughly enjoying the friendship at the club and is looking forward to many years bowling with the club.
If you would like to contact Mike by email please click on his name above.
2009meadows.1.jpgMike Meadows - Assistant Bar Manager
Mike played played both Football (Maybridge Boys Club and Ferring) and Cricket (Blackstone Village and Worthing Foresters) in his younger days. Assisted also with Worthing Rugby Club (Minors) his interest in sport during the 1980's moved towards the ownership of racing Greyhounds at Hove and Portsmouth. In the early 90's Mike met and started owning Greyhounds with Tony Broad. When Tony decided to take up bowls in 2003 Mike thought it was time to take up yet another sport and asked Tony to put him up for membership at whatever club he was going to join. Hence Tarring Priory got a new player and an Assistant Bar Manager 2007- 2009.
Dave Bellingham - Press Officerbellingham_dave.1.jpg
A 'Man of Kent' and proud of it. Moved to Worthing in 1965, continued to play football in the local league for another 10 years and played Cricket as a left handed batsmen and occasional Bowler for broadwater CC. He stopped playing Cricket (much too soon) in the early 1980's.
Coached a junior football team for 5 years and the newly formed Broadwater Colts CC with some success before retiring as a Tax Inspector (don't tell a sole please) in 1993.
Took up bowls in 1988 and became a member of the clubs Selection Committee from 2001 until 2008. Became Press Officer in 2006 to ensure that his name appears in the local press - so he tells us!
